Another week of summer and another book! This weeks read is:
Amazon: A Painted House
Year published: 2004
If you are familiar with John Girsham, this is not his typical book. I was a bit leery about reading this book. It has nothing to do with a lawyer! It is about a cotton farming family who live in rural Arkansas in 1952. This book is about cotton harvest and how the family tries to harvest their 80 acres of cotton and stay in the black for the year. The book is told from the perspective of a 7 year old boy so even that is a bit different! The story has many sides and features quite a few different characters. The other hilarious part of this book is that all of these different characters decide to tell this 7 year old their life secrets! It is funny to see how he reacts knowing a few 7 year olds in real life and how they can’t hold anything in! I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time stopping reading! It may just be because I am from the south and lived in a cotton town for a short time. It was very familiar to stories I head from grandparents and family friends who were alive during this time. I read this book in probably 3 sittings for a total of 4-5 hours, however some of that was probably semi-distracted reading.
This is another great read and pretty quick. Would be a perfect beach book!
